Software Engineer (Debug)

Job Summary:

Drive & contribute to Sun's engineering relationship with ISVs. Working as part of the ISV Engineering ASAZ organization, delivering the highest level of Technical Support for ISV/SI partners developing/migrating applications on the Sun software stack. Enable adoption of key Sun technologies (Solaris, compilers, processors, benchmarking, sizing etc.) across ISV product line, realizing technical projects to demonstrate their applicability in diverse computing environments. Evangelize Sun technologies in developer conferences, etc.

Act as liaison to product engineering groups, driving resolution of problems affecting ISV and providing feedback on future directions. Act as an advocate of ISV issues to software and hardware product groups within Sun.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • In-depth research into Software problems and perform problem isolation and resolution, using system software and diagnostics tools. Provide technical support of software partners during application development and porting
  • Analysis, debugging of logs, Source Code, crash dumps etc. and suggest fixes.
  • Continuous development of technology skills and product expertise in the areas of Solaris OE & JES technology.
  • Communicate with Sun Sustaining/Product teams to help resolve partner issues. Act as a liaison for higher levels of technical support and manage technical escalation.
  • Capture experiences/knowledge and contribute to Sun's knowledge database.
  • Participate in sizing & benchmarking exercises
  • Driving ISV certification on future Solaris releases
  • Building key technology demonstrations
  • On need basis, travel on site to conduct porting code camps, evangelism of Sun technologies, delivering presentations at developer events and trade shows
  • Produce technical developer technical notes and white papers
  • Evangelize Sun technologies to ISV product management

Skills:

Sun Engineering/Technical:
  • Knowledge of software/hardware development processes
  • Knowledge of Unix/Solaris and Java/J2EE technologies
  • Ability to quickly learn "new" Sun technologies
  • Understanding of Sun systems architecture (HW, SW, or DB) is preferred
  • Excellent programming skills
Leadership:
  • Work independently [solve problems independently 50% or more of the time]
  • Ability to track and move forward on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to define project plan for SW development
  • Drive project to completion in a timely manner
  • Ability to support sales in strategic customer situations
Teamwork/Communication:
  • Work effectively within a diverse team (field/ISV/IHV/Engineering/etc)
  • Ability to communicate effectively across organizations within Sun
  • Excellent written communication skills

Experience & Qualifications:

  • BS and 4+ years or MS and 2+ years
  • Freshers with good technical skills will also be considered
